Iceland's State of Emergency: Volcano Threat and Evacuations

Iceland has declared a state of emergency and urged residents to evacuate the coastal town of Grindavík due to an intense wave of earthquakes linked to a possible volcanic eruption. The Icelandic Civil Protection Agency stated that a magma tunnel forming could reach Grindavík, but it is uncertain if and when the magma might break through to the surface. Authorities emphasized that there is no imminent danger but urged residents to evacuate calmly. The US Embassy in Iceland issued a volcano alert, warning about the increased signs of volcanic activity. The world-famous Blue Lagoon thermal pool in the area has already closed, and Iceland has experienced eruptions almost every 12 months since 2021.
