Maui Fire Death Toll Revised, Missing Persons List Released

The death toll from the Maui wildfire in Lahaina, Hawaii has been revised down from 115 to 97 after weeks of DNA analysis to confirm victims' identities. The process of identifying the dead has been challenging, with forensic examiners discovering multiple sets of remains for the same person and even 16 nonhuman remains mixed in with human remains. The number of people unaccounted for has also decreased to 31, and authorities have located most of the individuals previously thought to be missing.
