The Maui Police Chief has stated that some victims of the deadly wildfire in Lahaina may never be found, as the search for remains wraps up. While there are 115 confirmed fatalities, there are still hundreds of people missing. The number of confirmed fatalities is expected to change as forensic analysis is performed and more information is gathered from the community. The county has been working with the FBI to develop a comprehensive list of the unaccounted for, and while progress has been made, there are still hundreds of names that need to be tracked down. The county has also hired an interim director for the Maui Emergency Management Agency.
