"Wildfires Ravage Western Canada, Prompting State of Emergency and Mass Evacuations"

British Columbia has declared a state of emergency as devastating wildfires continue to spread, threatening the cities of Yellowknife and Kelowna. The McDougall Creek fire near Kelowna has burned nearly 26,000 acres and is currently "out of control." Evacuation orders and alerts have been issued in multiple municipalities and First Nations in British Columbia. In the Northwest Territories, evacuation orders have been issued for nearly 20,000 residents, including in the capital city of Yellowknife. The fires have burned a total of 33.8 million acres in Canada this year, surpassing the previous annual record set in 1989.
