AG Garland Defends Special Counsel's Independence in Trump Indictment Case

Attorney General Merrick Garland defended the special counsel who pursued criminal charges against former President Donald Trump, but declined to provide further details about the prosecution. Garland appointed special counsel Jack Smith to investigate Trump's alleged mishandling of classified records at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago after he left office. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday. Garland stated that any questions about the matter will have to be answered by their filings in court.
