Former George Santos Campaign Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Federal Fraud Charges

Nancy Marks, the former treasurer for US congressman George Santos, pleaded guilty to a fraud conspiracy charge, admitting to submitting fake campaign finance reports that included a fake loan and fake donors. Marks implicated Santos in the scheme, stating that they had submitted bogus reports to make it appear as if he had loaned his campaign $500,000 and attracted other donors. Marks also admitted to providing the Federal Elections Commission with a fake list of donors. Her plea agreement recommends a prison sentence of three and a half to four years. Marks's lawyer indicated that she would be willing to testify against Santos if asked. Santos, who already faces separate charges of embezzlement and lying to Congress, has not commented on the matter.
