House GOP conservatives issue ultimatum to McCarthy on government funding

A group of 21 House GOP conservatives, led by Reps. Scott Perry and Chip Roy, have sent Speaker Kevin McCarthy a letter threatening to vote against government funding legislation unless their demands are met. They insist on spending less than the levels agreed to in the bipartisan debt limit law and want funding levels to match the fiscal 2022 amount without using gimmicks. They also call for a rejection of an omnibus bill and supplemental legislation for Ukraine aid. The conservatives suggest their demands could be met by getting President Biden to sign a Republican border enforcement bill.
