Michigan AG charges 16 GOP activists in fake elector scheme to aid Trump

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has filed forgery and other felony charges against 16 Republican activists who falsely claimed to be presidential electors in an effort to aid former President Donald Trump. These charges represent the first criminal charges related to the creation of alternate slates of electors, which Trump used to pressure Vice President Mike Pence to block Joe Biden's election. The self-styled electors face charges including conspiracy to commit forgery and election forgery. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges against other defendants have not been ruled out.
