Michigan AG Charges 16 Participants in 2020 Fake Elector Plot

Sixteen individuals, including current and former state GOP officials, have been charged with multiple felonies for their involvement in a scheme to falsely claim that President Donald Trump won Michigan in the 2020 election. The group of fake electors signed certificates proclaiming Trump's victory and attempted to deliver them to the statehouse. The charges include forgery, conspiracy, and publishing counterfeit records. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stated that the plan to undermine democracy was fraudulent and legally baseless. The investigation into the fake electors plot is ongoing, and additional charges against other defendants have not been ruled out.
