National Security Advisor Sullivan: House Republicans' Social Issues Threaten Defense Bill Passage

A "small group" of House Republicans have loaded the National Defense Authorization Act with domestic-focused amendments, including efforts to end diversity initiatives, limit transgender servicemembers' access to gender-affirming care, and prevent the Defense Department from reimbursing abortion-related expenses for active-duty servicemembers. U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan criticized these amendments, stating that they should not be included in a bill that funds national security. While GOP leaders have given tacit approval to the amendments, Democratic senators in the Senate are expected to remove many of the controversial provisions.
