The bill makes it illegal for medical personnel to perform an abortion after 12 weeks of pregnancy, with exceptions for sexual assault, incest, and medical emergencies. The bill also bans a range of treatments that fall under the umbrella of gender-affirming care. Some Republicans have expressed concern over long-term outcomes of the treatments, but major medical associations say that gender-affirming care is clinically appropriate for children and adults with gender dysphoria.
