Missouri Senate leader Caleb Rowden said state lawmakers would likely drop attempts to replace Kimberly Gardner as St. Louis Circuit Attorney if the embattled prosecutor resigns. Republicans have queued up legislation taking aim at Gardner in a Senate committee scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday. Senate Minority Leader John Rizzo said he and Gardner have been discussing her resignation in the face of the GOP attempts to oust her. The Missouri Association of Prosecuting Attorneys weighed in Thursday, saying Gardner’s office “desperately needs immediate organizational and leadership improvements to restore the office’s ability to fulfill its responsibilities.”
