Tennessee Lawmakers Clash Over Gun Control, Package Delivery, and Political Games

Tennessee lawmakers concluded a special session on public safety without passing significant gun-control measures, despite protests and outcry following a deadly shooting at a local Christian school. The session, ordered by Republican Governor Bill Lee, resulted in the extension of a tax break for gun safes and a free gun lock program, as well as the codification of a version of the governor's executive order on background checks. Advocates for gun control were disappointed as proposals for an extreme-risk protection order law and other measures were not approved. The session, costing taxpayers nearly $60,000 a day, was criticized for its lack of leadership and failure to address public concerns.
