Trump's bid for presidential immunity denied in federal election interference case

The judge stated that presidents are not immune from criminal charges and that Trump can be subject to federal investigation, indictment, prosecution, conviction, and punishment for any criminal acts undertaken while in office. Trump's defense team argued that his conduct was protected speech under the First Amendment, but the judge denied those requests as well. Trump's legal team indicated that they will appeal the decision.
