Trump's Declassification Efforts Undermined by Pence and Meadows

Former Vice President Mike Pence stated that he was not aware of any "broad-based effort" by Donald Trump to declassify documents before leaving the White House. Pence acknowledged the existence of a declassification process but claimed he had no knowledge of a directive from the president. Trump is facing indictment for his handling of classified documents brought to his Mar-a-Lago resort, as well as possible obstruction of the investigation. Classified records are required to be stored securely, and White House records should be transferred to the National Archives at the end of an administration. Pence has criticized Trump for his role in the January 6 attack on the Capitol but has not ruled out pardoning him.
