Clashing Views: Right-wing Catholics Disrupt LGBTQ World Youth Day Mass

Ultra-traditionalist Catholics interrupted a Mass for LGBTQ pilgrims in Lisbon, Portugal, protesting the organizer's efforts to put Pope Francis' message of inclusivity into action. The protesters wore mantillas and held crucifixes, chanting loudly to disrupt the Mass. Police were called to escort them out, and the Mass continued without further incident. The organizers had to find a new location for the Mass after the original hosts grew anxious due to online calls for protests. Despite the interruption, one of the concelebrants, Fr. James Alison, expressed no ill will towards the protesters, blaming the intellectual authors behind their ideology of hatred. Pope Francis, who arrived in Portugal for World Youth Day, has repeatedly emphasized that everyone has a home in the Catholic Church, while upholding traditional teachings on LGBTQ issues.
