Gun Violence: A Tragic Reality for One in Five American Families.

A national poll by KFF found that more than half of Americans have experienced gun violence in their personal lives, with one in five reporting a family member who was fatally shot, one in six witnessing a shooting, and the same share being threatened with a gun. The majority of respondents said they take at least one precaution to stay safe from the possibility of gun violence, with more than 40% seeking out weapons to protect themselves or learning how to handle a gun. The poll also revealed that three in four people who live in a home with a gun report at least one gun is either unlocked, loaded, or stored with ammunition.
