ACC Expands Cross-Country with Stanford, Cal, and SMU Joining

The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has voted to expand by adding Stanford, California, and SMU, creating a fourth super conference in major college sports. The move will increase the ACC's revenue and provide a landing spot for schools from the disintegrating Pac-12. The expansion will bring the ACC's number of football schools to 17 and 18 in most other sports, with Notre Dame remaining a football independent. The addition of Stanford and Cal will extend the ACC's reach to the West Coast, and SMU will join from the American Athletic Conference. The ACC becomes the fourth conference, along with the SEC, Big Ten, and Big 12, to have at least 16 football-playing members.
