England edges out Haiti in Women's World Cup debut

England narrowly defeated tournament debutant Haiti 1-0 in their first Women's World Cup match. Despite dominating with 19 shots on goal, England only managed to score through a retaken penalty by Georgia Stanway. Haiti's goalkeeper, Kerly Theus, made several impressive saves to keep the scoreline close. Late in the game, Haiti had a chance to equalize, but England's goalkeeper, Mary Earps, made two brilliant saves to secure the victory. In another Group D match, Denmark defeated China 1-0 with a last-minute goal.
