"French Swimmer Leon Marchand Shatters Michael Phelps' Last World Record"

French swimmer Leon Marchand broke Michael Phelps' last individual world record in the men's 400-meter individual medley at the World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. Marchand finished in 4 minutes, 2.50 seconds, surpassing Phelps' mark of 4:03.84 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 21-year-old Marchand, coached by Bob Bowman, also collected his medal from Phelps at the victory ceremony. Marchand is a potential hometown superstar for the Paris Olympics and is favored in the 200 IM. Two other world records were broken on the opening day of the championships, including Ariarne Titmus in the women's 400-meter freestyle and Australia in the women's 4x100 freestyle relay.
