Monty Williams agrees to record-breaking deal as Pistons head coach.

Monty Williams has agreed to a six-year, $78.5 million contract to become the head coach of the Detroit Pistons, making it the largest coaching deal in NBA history. Williams was fired by the Phoenix Suns earlier in May after four seasons as their coach, during which he was named NBA Coach of the Year in May 2022. He will replace Dwane Casey, who stepped down as the Pistons' coach in April. The Pistons have gone seven straight campaigns without finishing over .500, but have promising young players and hold the No. 5 overall pick in June's NBA draft.
