Patriots owner Robert Kraft hopes linebackers coach Jerod Mayo will eventually become the team's head coach, despite having just four years of coaching experience. Mayo has already interviewed for head-coaching jobs in the past and turned down an opportunity to interview for the Carolina Panthers' vacancy earlier this year after agreeing to a long-term contract extension with the Patriots. Mayo has served as a de facto co-defensive coordinator alongside Steve Belichick for the last several seasons and is widely viewed as a head coach in the making.
