AT&T Resets Passcodes After Dark Web Data Breach Exposes 73M Customers

AT&T has notified millions of customers about a data breach after discovering personal information, including Social Security numbers, for about 7.6 million current account holders and 65.4 million former account holders on the "dark web." The company has reset passcodes for current users and is reaching out to affected account holders. The compromised data, dating back to 2019 or earlier, may also include email and mailing addresses, phone numbers, and birth dates. Cybersecurity researcher Troy Hunt warns that AT&T could face class action lawsuits if it failed to notify impacted customers in a timely manner. This incident follows a February outage that temporarily disrupted cellphone service for thousands of U.S. users.
