Microsoft Hikes Surface Prices, Making PCs Costlier Than Macs

Microsoft raised prices on all Surface PCs, lifting mid-range models above $1,000 and starting configurations at $1,500. For example, the 12-inch Surface Pro now starts at $1,049, the 13-inch Surface Pro at $1,499, the 13-inch Surface Laptop at $1,149, the 13.8-inch Laptop at $1,499, and the 15-inch Laptop at $1,599. The higher prices make many Surface configurations pricier than their Mac equivalents (Apple’s MacBook Air rose to $1,099 with the M5), and Windows Central notes additional Surface price increases are planned later this year amid ongoing memory-cost pressures and global shortages.
