China Accuses US of Turning Taiwan into a "Powder Keg" with New Military Aid Package

China has accused the US of turning Taiwan into a "powder keg and ammunition depot" after the White House announced a $345 million military aid package for Taiwan. China's Taiwan Affairs Office issued a statement opposing the aid, stating that it will not shake their resolve to solve the Taiwan problem and reunify the motherland. Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense reported tracking six Chinese navy ships near the island. Taiwan has been increasing its weapons purchases from the US as a deterrence strategy against a potential Chinese invasion. The latest aid package includes self-defense capabilities to bolster deterrence. China and Taiwan split in 1949, and Taiwan has never been governed by China's ruling Communist Party.
