Twin quakes unleash devastation in Venezuela as rescue teams arrive

Two powerful earthquakes, including a magnitude-7.5 tremor, struck Venezuela within seconds of each other, killing at least 920 people and injuring thousands as rescue teams converge on La Guaira and other hard-hit areas; hundreds remain missing while hundreds of buildings, including hospitals and shopping centers, have collapsed or been damaged, and more than 214 aftershocks have followed. International aid is pouring in from the UK, US, Netherlands, Mexico and Switzerland, with the US pledging warships, transport planes and about $150 million in aid. Medical facilities are overwhelmed and authorities warn the death toll could rise as rescue efforts continue.
