Sudan teeters on the edge of all-out civil war, warns U.N. chief

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres has warned that Sudan is on the brink of a "full-scale civil war" as clashes between rival generals continue in the capital, Khartoum. The conflict between the Sudanese military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has already resulted in thousands of deaths, with millions of people displaced. The fighting erupted after a military coup in 2021, derailing hopes for a peaceful transition to democracy. Guterres also condemned an airstrike that killed at least 22 people in Omdurman and expressed concern over the large-scale violence in the western region of Darfur.
