Arrests made in murder of WFP official in Yemen

Yemeni police have arrested 21 suspects in the murder of Moayad Hameidi, the local office head of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Taiz. Hameidi, a Jordanian national, was shot dead in Turbah, a town near the Red Sea coast. The WFP's executive director, Cindy McCain, condemned the killing and called for those responsible to be held accountable. Taiz, the country's third-largest city, has been under siege by Iran-backed Houthi rebels for seven years, creating a blockade for essential goods and humanitarian supplies. The conflict in Yemen has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian deaths and widespread food insecurity.
