Ecuador's Manta Mayor Assassinated in Shocking Attack

Agustín Intriago, the mayor of Manta, Ecuador, was shot dead while touring his city. A bystander, Ariana Estefanía Chancay, also died in the attack. Intriago had reported receiving threats, but the motive behind the shooting is still unknown. Port cities in Ecuador have seen a surge in violence as transnational crime gangs from Colombia and Mexico infiltrate local gangs, seeking control of the ports for drug smuggling.
