French Senator Joël Guerriau has been charged with drugging a fellow lawmaker, Sandrine Josso, with the intent to commit rape or sexual assault. Guerriau, a member of the centre-right party Horizons, was suspended from his party and Senate group following his arrest. The alleged incident occurred when Guerriau invited Josso to his home, where she felt ill after drinking a glass of champagne. Josso later discovered the presence of ecstasy in her system and filed a complaint. Guerriau denies the charges and claims it was a "handling error." The investigation is ongoing, and if convicted, Guerriau could face up to five years in prison and a fine of €75,000.
