The US is home to over 45 million immigrants, with Mexicans being the largest group since 1980, although their numbers have been declining for over a decade. Immigration from other countries, including India and China, has been on the rise. The top 10 countries of origin for immigrants in the US are all in Latin America and Asia. The majority of foreign-born people living in the US are here legally. The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 paved the way for millions of non-European immigrants to come to the US. Immigrants are settling in a much broader swath of locations in the US, with California, Texas, Florida, New York, and New Jersey being home to the largest numbers of immigrants.
