Haiti Gang Leader Pledges Resistance Against Abusive Foreign Forces

Jimmy Chérizier, a powerful gang leader in Haiti, has warned that he will fight against any international armed force deployed to the country if it commits abuses. Chérizier, also known as "Barbecue," called on Haitians to rise up against the government and urged the population to mobilize. Prime Minister Ariel Henry has been pushing for the deployment of a foreign armed force to help combat powerful gangs that control a significant portion of the capital. Chérizier stated that he would welcome a foreign force if it arrested corrupt politicians and local police involved in illegal activities. However, he warned that Haitians would fight against any force that repeated the actions of previous UN peacekeepers, including sexual abuses and introducing cholera.
