Icelandic Volcano Continues to Erupt Near Capital for Third Consecutive Year

A volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula erupted for the third consecutive year following a series of over 4,700 earthquakes recorded in the area. The eruption, which occurred at the Fagradalsfjall station, resulted in a 200-meter-long fissure and smoke rising from the lava flows. The volcanic gas pollution is expected to move towards the capital city, Reykjavik. Forecasters had anticipated the eruption due to the earthquake pattern observed prior to the previous eruptions in 2021 and 2022. Residents have been advised to stay away from the volcano and avoid stopping their cars on Reykjanesbraut to witness the eruption.
