China warns US House Speaker against meeting Taiwan president

China has warned US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy not to meet Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen, stating that it opposes any form of official interactions between the US and Chinese Taiwan region. McCarthy's office confirmed that he will be hosting a bipartisan meeting with Tsai at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California on Wednesday. Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it has never been part of China and has the right to make its own determination in developing relations with other countries in the world. China has increased military exercises near Taiwan in recent years.
