China's expanded counter-espionage law raises concerns for foreign businesses.

China has passed an update to its Counter-Espionage Law, broadening the definition of spying and banning the transfer of any information related to national security. The revised law expands the definition of espionage to include cyber attacks against state organs or critical information infrastructure. It also allows authorities carrying out an anti-espionage investigation to gain access to data, electronic equipment, information on personal property and also to ban border crossings. The move is seen as evidence of President Xi Jinping's focus on national security and countering espionage as suspicion of the US and its allies grows.
