Honduras strengthens ties with China, cuts off Taiwan.

Honduras has opened an embassy in Beijing, China, after cutting diplomatic ties with Taiwan earlier this year. The embassy was opened by foreign ministers from both countries, and Honduran President Xiomara Castro is currently in China for a state visit. China claims Taiwan as its own territory and demands that countries with which it has ties recognise its position, leaving Taiwan with formal diplomatic relations with only 13 countries.
