Japan's PM Kishida aims to eliminate nuclear weapons while strengthening military.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who wants to promote a world without nuclear weapons, is seeking to build up the country's military with the backing of the US's nuclear umbrella due to China's growing assertiveness in the region and North Korea's development of nuclear weapons. Kishida plans to double military spending over the next five years to 2% of GDP, including boosting cyberwarfare capabilities and buying US missiles. Japan has also taken a strong stand against Russia's war in Ukraine and linked the plight of Ukraine to the fate of Taiwan.
