Massive Protests in Spain Against Amnesty for Catalan Separatists

Tens of thousands of Spaniards protested in Madrid against acting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's possible plans to grant amnesty to Catalan separatists in order to secure their support and stay in office after failing to win the recent election. Supporters of the opposition conservative People's Party (PP) gathered from across Spain, waving Spanish flags, to voice their opposition to the amnesty. The PP leader, Alberto Nunez Feijoo, stated that he would never concede to demands for amnesty, calling it a pardon for "coup plotters." Sanchez, who came second in the election, is seeking support from exiled former Catalonia leader Carles Puigdemont, who has demanded the dropping of legal action against separatists as a condition for his support.
