Nobel Prize Winner Denis Mukwege Announces Presidential Bid in DRC

Denis Mukwege, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning doctor known for his work on sexual violence in warfare, has announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Mukwege, who founded Panzi Hospital and treated numerous victims of rape, aims to address issues such as insecurity and political leadership in the country. The current president, Felix Tshisekedi, has struggled to contain violence and faces criticism for the withdrawal of a UN peacekeeping force. Opposition leader Martin Fayulu has also announced his bid for the presidency.
