Olaf Scholz's Wife Steps Down as State Minister

Britta Ernst, the wife of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, has resigned as education minister of the east German state of Brandenburg due to tensions with her own parliamentary group over her plans to combat the shortage of teachers in the state. Ernst's plans to cut 200 vacant teaching positions and staff them with social workers instead did not find support from the SPD parliamentary group in the state parliament. She will be replaced by the current state secretary, Steffen Freiberg.
