Presidents in Europe Take Stands on LGBTQ+ Rights and Explosive Threats

Hungarian President Katalin Novak has vetoed a law that would allow anonymous reporting of certain same-sex couples to the government, calling it discriminatory towards LGBTQ+ people. The law was passed earlier this month and goes beyond transposing EU law, according to Novak. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has been clamping down on LGBTQ+ rights for over a decade, with the European Commission taking Hungary to the bloc’s highest courts for passing a law that discriminates against people on the basis of their sexual orientation and gender identity.
