Taiwan and Guatemala Presidents Visit Mayan Pyramid Amid China Pressure.

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen and Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei visited the archaeological site of Tikal to strengthen Taiwan's diplomatic ties with its remaining allies in Central America. Honduras broke relations with Taipei a week ago, and other countries in the region have switched their support to China. The trip is also aimed at solidifying ties in Latin America as China funnels money into the region and pressures its countries to break off relations with Taiwan. Taiwan now has no more than 13 official diplomatic partners, with more than half of those being small countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
