Thailand's Opposition Parties Sweep Election, Plan to Take Power with Allies

Thailand's top two opposition parties, Move Forward and Pheu Thai, are planning to form a coalition government after winning a majority of seats in the House of Representatives. Move Forward's Pita Limjaroenrat has been in talks with five other parties to form a coalition government, which would have 309 House seats in total. The current prime minister, former army commander Prayuth Chan-ocha, seized power in a 2014 military coup and is facing criticism for a lagging economy, a botched response to the coronavirus pandemic, and thwarting democratic reforms.
