Wife of Spain's PM charged in four-count corruption case tied to a university chair

Madrid court indicted Begoña Gómez, wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, on four charges including embezzlement, influence peddling, corruption in business dealings and misappropriation, related to her role as co-director of two master’s programs and a Madrid Complutense University chair. A former adviser from Sánchez’s office and a businessman were also indicted. Gómez denies wrongdoing and Sánchez defends her, as the case adds to ongoing corruption probes involving Sánchez’s inner circle and comes amid other scandals, including one involving his brother.
