Hong Kong Bishop's Visit to Mainland China Amid Vatican Tensions

Hong Kong Bishop Stephen Chow will visit mainland China for the first time since 1994, but is unlikely to meet with representatives from the mainland's "underground" churches. The visit comes amid continuing strains between Beijing and the Vatican over the governance of the country's Catholics. The Vatican has long been at odds with Beijing over the Catholic Church in China, where the Communist Party is wary of any mass organizations over which it has no direct control.
