Icelandic Women Unite in 24-Hour Strike for Gender Equality

Tens of thousands of Icelandic women, including Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir, participated in a 24-hour strike to protest gender inequality. The strike aimed to address gaps in pay compared to men, gender-based violence, and the unequal burden of unpaid work such as childcare. Despite Iceland's reputation as a progressive country in terms of gender equality, women in certain industries still earn at least 20% less than men. The protest, organized under the slogan "Do you call this equality?", marks the first full-day strike since a similar event in 1975.
