"Israeli Court Acquits Police Officer in Controversial Killing of Autistic Palestinian"

Left-wing activists gathered in downtown Jerusalem to protest the acquittal of a Border Police officer in the fatal shooting of 32-year-old autistic Palestinian man, Iyad Halak. The officer claimed he mistook Halak's phone for a gun and shot him dead. The demonstration, held in solidarity with protests in Tel Aviv and Haifa, saw about 100 people calling for justice and chanting that Halak's killing was not an isolated incident but a result of a policy that devalues Palestinian lives. Police clashed with the protesters, arresting some and confiscating their signs and megaphones. The acquitted officer has been readmitted into the Border Police and is set to join a commanders' course.
