Humanist Marriages Have Lower Divorce Rates

Humanist marriages, which prioritize an equal partnership and do not have patriarchal expectations, are almost four times less likely to end in divorce than civil weddings, according to a 2019 BBC survey. Humanist celebrants ask couples to think about what marriage means to them, rather than imposing a definition. Scotland has allowed legal humanist weddings since 2005, and campaigners are pushing for the same freedom in England and Wales.
