Paris Bans Rental E-Scooters Following Public Referendum

Parisians voted overwhelmingly in a citywide referendum to ban rental electric scooters, with just over 89% of those who cast a ballot in favor of the ban. Last year, scooters were involved in 408 accidents in the French capital, including three fatalities. The ban will not apply to privately-owned scooters, nor does it apply in other French cities that have electric scooters available to rent. The contracts of the three rental providers, Lime, Dott, and Tier, will not be renewed when they end in August, costing Paris City Hall €930,000.
