Westminster Abbey's Coronation Floor Open to Barefoot Visitors

Visitors to Westminster Abbey will be allowed to walk on the historic "Cosmati" pavement, where King Charles III's newly restored coronation chair will be placed for his coronation on May 6. However, visitors will have to remove their shoes to protect the floor. The pavement is a colorful and highly decorative work composed of marble, stone, glass, and metal, and has been the scene of English coronations since it was commissioned by Henry III and completed in 1268. Charles' coronation will be a more modern affair than previous ones, but will still be rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.
